All Through the Storm

Acrylic 24” x 32”    Matthew 14:22-24

This painting was inspired by the storm in which the disciples found themselves shortly after the feeding of the 5000. The thing about storms, whether physical or spiritual, is that they always compel you to look at them, to see nothing else but their power over us and in our life. The ship in the storm represents the individual engulfed by the waves and blasted into submission by the wind. In these times there are no obvious indications of God’s presence, no place to go. With this in mind I pictured Jesus in prayer for his disciples as he must have seen them from the place he was praying on the mountain. The  unseen form of Jesus praying is superimposed over this image to say that, though you cannot see, he is there for you.
