Acrylic on Canvas 36" x 48" Matthew 11:28-30
This image overflows with every color contrasted by the silhouette of a figure resting on their knees in relief. This is healing rest. In ancient Hebrew, one word for rest was ‘Shabbat’, meaning 7, and was used to express the rhythm of sabbath rest each week. The other word used was ‘nuach’, indicating the kind of rest someone has on a journey. It is also used to mean guide or guidance. On a journey one stops to rest, and get one’s bearings. Guidance and rest in this sense would have been what Jesus was thinking when he said, “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest.”
Beyond rest from weariness is this kind of rest to reconnect with God. Nuach is the place where guidance and direction occurs.
