The Reach
Acrylic 48"x36" - Edmonton, 2018 [James 4:8 ] - This composition focuses on the reach of a hand by the figure towards heaven. Before the figure was painted the music was quite upbeat so the colors went on fast and they ran. I let the colors drip both horizontally and vertically. The running colors accentuated the lines one way of the field and the clouds. Going the other way, the dark greens of the treelike ran vertically. This hard edged frenetic look compliments the intensity of the moment with the figure bowed over and reaching heavenward. The hand is thrust towards the bursting sunlight of a new day. The reach of man is met by the hand of God reaching back in an almost unseen way… undergirding and holding up the figure. “Draw near to God and He will come near to you.”
