Lost in His Presence
Lost in His Presence

Acrylic on canvas 36” x 48”   John 15:1-8

This piece began as a sketch in my book of a person in worship letting go and connecting with God. The upward turned face of contentment is echoed by the upward gesture of the arm. Just before worship began, the scripture passage of John 15 was read giving me further context of this connectedness. “Apart from me you can do nothing,” and “Remain in me,” represent the intentionality of communing with God or being connected to Him. My image joins my first idea of letting go in worship with this moment of connecting to God. There are few words that can describe the event. To be lost in His presence is to forge through the brambles of immediate worries and to break into the clearing where his vine grows. Light, warmth, nurture, purpose, and completeness greet us. The figure almost seems to be raising the other arm on the left up into the branches to connect.
