Acrylic on canvas 36"x30"
During the Imaginarium creative gathering in Winnipeg [2019] I painted some of the sense that I had of healing and breakthrough. The figure on their knees in the centre is swept in a flurry of paint that feels like the inner turmoil and brokenness of so many artists and makers. The figure’s posture is more collapsed than it is searching. The light yellow from the left contrasts abruptly with the dark shadows on the right. Within us can exist both the positive and the negative, the struggle coexisting with peace or joy. It is not incongruous, then, for one to live out of this blend, but it is better when it is lived out with others. The profile of another stands to the side in the shadows. Its gaze is upon and for the broken figure. It could even be the same person. In the light our brokenness is seen. In the shadows our strength towards others is at peace.
